Dana's process was flawless from the get go -prior to session she emailed me detailed instructions about preparation and what to expect. Upon arrival she knew exactly where to set up for optimal lighting and handled my new baby with such grace and tenderness - I was at great ease. Her patience, precision, and artistic eye was amazing - I highly recommend her to any new mom!

We had both a pregnancy session and a newborn session with Dana. The pictures came out beautiful and very natural. We have gotten lots of compliments on the pictures, and people keep asking us for the name of the photographer.
We were nervous about being photographed (because neither of us are photogenic 😉 ) but Dana made us feel at ease. The experience with her was relaxing and fun and we have great memories to keep.
Highly recommended.

Dana is amazing! She took my Maternity photos and the minute I saw them I knew she will be taking my son's newborn photos as well. She was so patient and cool during the session. She held our little one in her arms when he was a fussy until he calmed down (she has two boys of her own, so she knows her way around little creatures). She didn't panic when our son pooped on her (twice! yikes!) - just laughed, wiped everything off and went on like nothing happened. I liked that she came to our house- a huge plus when you have a newborn. Also, it was fun to see our tiny dining room turn into a studio 🙂 She brought in a lot of wraps and accessories for us to choose from, but still the end result seems natural and minimal. We absolutely love it.
Her technique, commitment to quality newborn photography, and talent come across easily with every photo. I will continue to recommend Dana to anyone who is looking for newborn photography in Seattle, she's the best!

Dana is a very gifted photographer. We did a newborn session with her when our daughter was 10 days, and she was so professional, gentle, and wonderful with our daughter.
Your little ones are only little once so if you're looking for someone to capture that magical time, call Dana! Take a moment to look over her website, and see for yourself. Highly, highly recommended!

If you are looking for an ideal newborn photographer, look no further. Dana with Red Poppy is simply excellent. Here's why:

Dana knew how to care for our newborn during the session. She allowed for feedings, helped make certain our baby was sleeping and even played white noise for her. She brought a heater to help keep the baby warm. And when our baby mistakenly soiled one of her fabric pieces, Dana simply cleaned up and moved on.

Dana has both artistic and technical expertise. She captured superb compositions and not one photograph had technical issues. The end product had a balance of both strong artistic and technical merit.

The session was done AT OUR HOME! This made it so easy and comfortable for our newborn. The session was unrushed. Dana took her time. She set up many scenes and allowed us to indicate what we wanted in the compositions. She set up and dismantled her own props.

While newborn photography is not cheap, Dana was reasonable. She was running a special at the time which made her services even more attractive. The cost per unit/photo is a bit pricey. However, the images over time remain priceless.

The photos were simply stunning. They captured our baby's natural beauty and used very few props. Dana provided a balance of posed and natural shots. Most important, the photos were minimalistic and not overdone making them timeless. Simply, they were exactly what we were looking for and more.

Dana was pleasant to work with. She is a great photographer and a good human being. She was on time, professional and focused. We received the final product on time and as promised.

We highly recommend her and encourage your newborn to be photographed by her.

My son was born in April. My husband and I decided to hire professional photographer to leave this memorable moment on quality photos that we are not able to create the same quality on our own. We were searching for the professional photographer through the Internet web sites.
When we came across this red poppy photography, we saw beautiful newborn photos posted on the website. We contacted Dana who owns this company for the details.

She answered all my questions promptly and clearly.
After comparing many photographer, we decided to ask her to proceed the session.
The points that made us select red poppy photography were:

1) Location
As a family who just welcomed a newborn baby, it was extremely helpful that session had been done at our home. It is always a hassle going out with a newborn.  Home environment allowed us to work with baby under maximum flexibility. Some other companies mentioned that they have nursing room/changing room. However, it will still be difficult for the parents to manage the situation and bring all the necessary baby goods to the studio.

2) managing baby's comfort/safety
Photographer, Dana was always focusing and caring for the baby's safety. She never left my son even 2 feet. When she needed to grab the equipment or change the setting, she always asked someone to be with my son to make sure nothing happens.
My son cried quite a lot. I could tell that it made the session run difficult. Dana knew what the baby needed. She was able to soothe my son all by herself. She was even able to fix my son's frown facial expression.
She knew all the tricks that make the session move smoothly.

3) cost vs photos
Most of the newborn photographs are expensive. I emailed many places and asked for the quotes. Some places charges $2500+ just for the digital image!!
I'm not saying that red poppy photography is the lowest on price, but we felt the pricing was reasonable, the quality of photos are excellent, and Dana placed my son in the lovely poses on every single picture.

4) concept
Dana uses natural light for the photo shoot. That makes the pictures look more natural and soft, but high in resolution. I also believe that prevents my son from getting startled and blind by using the strong strobe light.

In addition, when this photo session was done, family was visiting from overseas to celebrate for my son's arrival. Usually, process for photos takes 2-3 weeks to be ready for being able to be reviewed online. However, Dana did expedite the process and was able to allow my family to review all the photos before leaving the US. My family was so thrilled and enjoyed all the beautiful pictures that was taken by Dana for my son's memorable moment.
