Where are you located?
I am based in Seattle! My Queen Anne studio is where I photograph all newborns and sometimes older children too. For all other sessions I often travel throughout Seattle and nearby area, including with my favorite locations being Discovery Park and the Arboretum.
How long have you been in business?
Photography was always my main hobby. I used to enjoy photographing landscape and traveled the world with my camera and lenses. I switched to portrait photography after my child was born, and started my business in 2012. I love being a professional photographer and getting to know the families and children I photograph!
When do newborn sessions take place?
My newborn sessions typically happen when the baby is 5-10 days old. My sessions are very relaxed an stress free, and I let the baby lead the session. Even awake babies can be photographed well! You just need patience 🙂
How do we schedule a newborn session?
I reserve your session on my calendar with your due date. I leave some space in my schedule to allow for early and late deliveries since it’s pretty unpredictable. Once the baby is born, shoot me an email and I will give you a few dates/times for you to choose from.
Where do the newborn sessions take place?
The newborn session takes place in my cozy Queen Anne studio. I use studio lights for these sessions so I can have full control on the lighting conditions. My studio is kept warm and dark through the session, and many of the parents find it relaxing enough to take a nap on the couch while I photograph their baby 🙂
What should we wear?
It’s a personal choice. I like to suggest neutral colors, like gray, cream, brown, and black. Please avoid hot pink, bright orange, and any other neon colors– they reflect poorly onto skin tones and don’t print very well. I think it looks best when adults wear solid colors so the focus is on the baby. The most important thing is so feel comfortable and be yourselves!
Do I need to buy any props for the session?
You can, but don’t need to! I have many options for you to choose from in my studio. I love using anything you have that is sentimental or meaningful to you, so if you have something like that, bring it with you!
What happens if my baby is fussy the entire time?
Do not worry! I have done hundreds of newborn sessions and have dealt with a wide range of temperaments. Some babies are little angels and cooperate the entire session, while others might have an off day and need a little extra love. The end result is the same – beautiful pictures that capture their tiny features and expressions.
Is there an extra fee for family and sibling shots?
Absolutely not! Family and sibling shots are included and encouraged. I know you might be sleep deprived, and feeling un-photogenic, but I will gently nudge you to be in some pictures, since I believe that family photos are the most important ones to take! Your child will appreciate these photos the most in the future.
Where do family sessions take place?
Family sessions take place at an outdoor location or in the comfort of your own home. My favorite locations are Discovery Park and Seattle’s Arboretum, but I am always open to new locations and suggestions!
How long does the family session last?
The session usually lasts anywhere between 45 minutes to an hour.
We are awkward in photos. Can you help us?
Yes! I give a lot of direction during the session. I’ll tell you where to stand, where to look, and what to do. Don’t worry! The more natural and relaxed you are, the better the photos will turn out.
When should I book a maternity session?
Maternity sessions typically happen between 32-36 weeks. It’s best if you contact me during your first or second trimester to ensure availability.
Where does the maternity session take place?
Maternity sessions take place at an outdoor location or in the comfort of your own home. I personally like to shoot maternity at sunset since the golden glow is so gorgeous! My favorite location for these is Discovery Park, but I am always open to new locations and suggestions!
What should I wear for maternity?
Most of my clients choose to wear a long dress for part of the session and then change into a more casual option like jeans and a top. You may also bring a second outfit for your partner!
